can someone explain this setting?

When set to "Yes", anything in the editor already will be replaces with a new quote.

So say you pressed the Reply button once already, and in the Editor there is:

Code: Select all: [quote="User" post_id=54852 time=1738791898 user_id=3686]My FIRST quote[/quote]

There will now be:

Code: Select all: [quote="User" post_id=54852 time=1738793456 user_id=3686]My SECOND quote[/quote]

When set to "No", the new quote will be appended to whatever is in the editor, so if you have:

Code: Select all: [quote="User" post_id=54852 time=1738791898 user_id=3686]My FIRST quote[/quote]

You will now get:

Code: Select all: [quote="User" post_id=54852 time=1738791898 user_id=3686]My FIRST quote[/quote] [quote="User" post_id=54852 time=1738793456 user_id=3686]My SECOND quote[/quote]
