Follower + Reactions a little confusing

So I am testing both extensions at the same time and I see this in posts:

As I understand it, the heart button comes from cBB Follower, and the smiley face comes from cBB Reactions, so that's a little double...

But to add to my confusion, it's only cBB Reactions that influences the Reactions score, which is also visible in cBB Follower profile.

What is the difference with the heart button? Would it not make more sense to integrate the two? So when both extensions are installed, only one button and score system is available?

Upload the attached file to /ext/canidev/core/plugins/reactions/ and clear cache in the ACP.
This plugin disables the cBB Follower button when cBB Reactions is present.
It will be included by default in the next version of cBB Reactions.
